Equity

Net worth calculation and financial goal forecasting

User Need

To understand your real financial situation, simply knowing your bank account balance is not enough. Your true wealth (Net Worth) consists of cash, property value (real estate, cars), issued loans, minus your debts and credits.

The Equity module brings all this data together. It doesn’t just show your current balance but also uses AI algorithms to calculate exactly when you will reach your global financial goal, based on your real income and expenses.

Where to find it

The Equity section is part of the analytics for a specific budget. UI Path: In the bottom bar, go to the Money tab -> Tap the card of the desired budget -> In the top toggle, select Result -> In the second toggle, select Equity.

What the Equity screen consists of

The screen is visually divided into four logical blocks (cards):

1. Analytics Equity Card

This gathers all your assets and liabilities. Tapping any row in this card will take you to manage the corresponding section:

  • Cash on hands: The amount of your liquid funds, calculated based on the last balance checkpoint and subsequent transactions.
  • Tangible Assets: The total estimated value of your property.
  • Money owed to us: The amount of loans you have issued to other people.
  • Money we owe: The amount of your debts and credits (highlighted in red).
  • Total: The final calculation of your net worth.

2. Goal Card

  • Goal: Your target savings amount.
  • Planned date: The achievement date you set yourself.
  • Forecast date: A realistic date calculated by AI based on your current financial dynamics.

3. Equity Forecast Chart

An interactive curve showing the history of your capital and the forecast line into the future. Below the chart is the Source data button — it opens a detailed month-by-month breakdown of the forecast (starting balance, future recurring payments, debts, and delta).

4. Savings Progress

Shows the ratio of how much you need to save per month (Goal) versus how much you are actually managing to save (Forecast / Net Cash Flow).

Shared Access and Roles

Asset and debt management is strictly protected:

  • Admin: Has exclusive access to create, edit, and delete tangible assets, issued loans, and debts.
  • Member: Has read-only access to the module. Members can view the consolidated equity report but cannot add apartments or modify debts. However, any active member can perform cash balance reconciliations (Balance Checkpoints).

Smart calculation and features

  • Dynamic conversion: If your assets, debts, and cash are recorded in different currencies, the system dynamically converts them all into your workspace’s base currency at today’s current exchange rate.
  • Valuation History: When updating the value of an apartment or a debt balance, the old record is not erased. The system creates a new valuation point. This allows for building accurate historical charts of your capital changes.
  • Data Refresh: Pull the screen down to initiate a forced refresh and recalculate all financial metrics.

Statuses and possible errors

UI Statuses

  • Please create a goal in space settings: Displayed if a global financial goal has not yet been set for the budget.
  • Not enough data: Appears on charts if less than two periods of activity are recorded in the budget (the system has nothing to base the forecast on).
  • Unreachable: If the AI determines that the goal is unattainable at the current spending level, the Forecast date field turns red with this text.

Server Errors (API)

  • “Return date cannot be earlier than issue date.”: 400 error. The return date of a loan cannot be earlier than its issue date.
  • “Only budget admins can create tangible assets/debts.”: 403 Forbidden error. Occurs if a user with the Member role tries to directly create or modify an asset/debt.

Frequently Asked Questions (Q&A)

How does Small Metrics calculate my Total Equity? Your Total Equity is calculated dynamically in real-time. The formula we use is: Cash on hands (your tracked transactions + checkpoints) + Tangible Assets + Money Owed to Us (Issued Loans) - Money We Owe (Debts). All amounts are converted to your budget’s default currency.

Why is my Forecast date different from my Planned date? The Planned date is your desired deadline. The Forecast date is a realistic estimation by our AI, based on your actual monthly net cash flow (income minus expenses). If you spend more than you earn, achieving the goal may get an “Unreachable” status.

What happens if the value of my car or house changes over time? You can update the asset amount at any time. Small Metrics does not delete the old price but creates a new valuation record. This append-only approach allows you to accurately track how the value of your property has changed over months or years.

I added a Balance Checkpoint, but my current cash balance looks wrong. Why? The system calculates your current “Cash on hands” by taking the amount from your last Balance Checkpoint and adding/subtracting any transactions with an operation date after that checkpoint’s date. Ensure that your transactions have the correct dates and that future transactions (which should be entered in the Planned section) are not messing up the timeline.

Can my partner (Member) add a new loan to our family balance sheet? No. To maintain strict control over your capital, only users with the Admin role can manage property and debts. Members can view the report but cannot make changes to it.
