How to permanently delete an outdated or mistakenly created task.

Business need

The deletion feature allows users to maintain perfect order in their to-do lists by getting rid of mistakenly created or completely outdated records. Unlike simply completing a task, deletion permanently erases the data from the system, cleaning up your digital space.

Availability

Available to all authorized users.

Only the author can delete a task. The tasks module is fully tied to your personal account, so financial admin or member roles from other modules do not apply here.

Location

A user can initiate the deletion of a task only from its edit mode:

  1. Navigate to the Tasks tab via the bottom navigation menu.
  2. Find the required task on the main screen or inside a specific category.
  3. Tap on the task card text to open the Edit Task screen.

Instructions

To permanently delete a task, follow these steps:

  1. While on the Edit Task screen, look at the top right corner.
  2. Tap the red trash bin icon.
  3. A modal window will appear with the title Delete Task? and a warning text.
  4. To confirm irreversible deletion, tap the red Delete button.
  5. If you change your mind, tap the gray Cancel button to return to editing.

Expected result

After tapping the Delete button, the modal window will disappear, and the edit screen will smoothly close. You will be returned to the previous task list.

A green success notification will pop up on the screen. The task itself will instantly and seamlessly disappear from the list and calendar. The database will physically delete the object and all images linked to it.

Questions and answers

Can I recover a deleted task?

No. When you tap the delete button, the task and all attached data are permanently removed from the system. If you just want to mark a task as finished, use the completion checkbox.

Do I need to delete tasks once I finish them?

No, for completed tasks, just tap the checkbox. The task will automatically move to the closed tab, keeping its history, description, and photos. Deletion is best used only for mistakes.

Will deleting a task also delete its category?

No, deleting a task only affects the task itself. The category will remain intact, even if it becomes empty. You can only delete a category separately.

Can someone else in my shared budget delete my task?

No. The tasks module is your completely private space. No one else has access to your to-do lists and cannot delete them.

Possible errors

Since the process does not require data entry, there are no classic validation errors here. However, system failures are possible:

  • Connection timed out. Please try again notification - means a network failure occurred during deletion or the server is temporarily unavailable.
  • Not found notification - occurs if the task was already deleted earlier from another device of yours.
  • Given token not valid notification - means your session has expired and you need to log into the app again.
